ONAPI and USPTO sign agreement to expedite granting of patents
On World Intellectual Property Day 2024, the National Industrial Property Office (ONAPI) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) signed a cooperation treaty between both Offices, constituting a significant event to boost innovations in the Dominican Republic.
The purpose of this treaty is to expedite the granting of patents, facilitate access to the protection of inventions between both countries and promote the protection of intellectual property in the Dominican Republic.
In addition, the treaty establishes a framework for cooperation to improve the processes of registration and protection of patents, and to facilitate collaboration between ONAPI and the USPTO.
This agreement would strengthen the Dominican intellectual property system, encourage the development of businesses in the Dominican Republic and the United States, and promote innovation and economic development thanks to the accelerated patent granting system.
